At the heart of our mission lies the innovative and game-changing Slam Dice Maths strategy, designed to ignite a passion for mathematics from an early age.
I’m Douw Wessels, the founder of R1 Math South Africa, and I’m here to share with you a vision that has been nurtured over a lifetime of teaching and learning.
My journey as an educator began in the hallowed halls of a top primary school, where I honed my skills for five years. But it was my role as a parent that truly shaped my teaching philosophy.
Eight years of guiding my own children through their mathematical milestones gave me invaluable insights into the wonders and challenges of early math education.
Throughout my 16-year teaching career, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse groups of students, from those with exceptional mathematical talents to those who face learning difficulties.
This experience has forged me into an expert in the field of mathematics education, with an unwavering commitment to unlocking the potential in every child.
But our mission goes beyond mathematics. In a world dominated by screens and technology, I firmly believe in the importance of striking a balance.
I encourage children to spend less time on their cell phones and watching television and more time experiencing the world outdoors. It’s in these everyday situations that we can build a solid foundation in math, making it a part of their daily lives.
